VPC6: Round 1 – Don’t Let Your Memes Be Dreams
It goes without saying that wordplay is one of the fundamental aspects of rap music. Rappers from Slick Rick to Kodak Black turn phrases on their head to alter meaning and elevate their words from rhythmic rhymes to pure poetry. You know what other medium relies on wordplay? Memes. Round One’s challenge for VPC6 is to create a song about memes – whether they’re ancient memes from the dawn of the social media era to some weird, edgy stuff to the surreal to the wholesome, memes are the topic of the round. The challenges, however, are as follows:
Vocalists, your round one challenge, in addition to writing a song about a meme or memes, is to make like a meme and work in at least four unique double entendres into your song. What’s a double entendre? It’s a word of phrase open to two interpretations, one of which might be risque or indecent. Get saucy with it.
Producers, your round one challenge is to sample a viral video on the track. It can correspond to the meme your vocalist chooses, or not!
That’s it for Round One. Memes and nerdcore go hand in handy, so y’all should have a lock on this one like your target’s acquired. We’re easing you into this VPC – enjoy yourselves!
