VPC6: ROUND 3 – Syzygy

Place your votes now!

Challenge:

Just like hip hop has its Four Elements, a certain musical festival that is most assuredly not a donut (^_~) has elements of its own.

(Some of) those elements are: chiptune, video game music (VGM), visualism and nerdcore hip hop. This challenge will have teams integrating these elements into one track.

To start off this alignment, we bring you three videos, brought to you by none other than visual artist Pixelseed!

Crave: https://youtu.be/jnDDc_0CvJ4

Droids: https://youtu.be/YKvSww3lEhw

Mosquito: https://youtu.be/ZMfCpci01G4

Your job, as a team, is to pick the video you like the best, and then create the soundtrack to it!

Seems easy enough, right?

Well, producers, your challenge is to tie in chiptune elements into your song.  You can go as minimal or maximized as you’d like, but the element(s) chosen need to be clear and identifiable.  Oh and if that wasn’t enough, we’re going to need you to build the hook of your track around an arpeggio. You can flex your muscles and write a completely original one yourself, but if that seems like too daunting a task, then you can borrow one – but it must be from a video game.

Vocalists, you’re here to represent nerdcore hip hop at it’s finest.  We want to see you whipping out your finest multisyllabic rhymes – at least 50% – to be precise.   Oh, and we need you to really get your point across by including some fire adlibs.

So that’s it, really.  Not too bad huh? All you need to do is pay homage to your sister scenes.

Oh, and don’t stress too much if you’re unable to edit your song to the video you choose, while you’re welcome to do it yourself to achieve perfection, we will also do it on behalf of anyone who isn’t able to.

    Hey there superman
Tell me just what you’re afraid of
Step to me and you will see that
    I ain’t no superman
    Hey where you going
    Wait up
You’ve been gone for so long
    Come get a hug

    Hey
It’s another big bad beautiful day
And we down here wading through the sludge
I saw you take a fall in the middle of a fray
And I offered my hand but you wouldn’t budge
Homie what kind of grudge ju-on?
Keeping that rage all bottled up inside
    We gotta try again
    Locked in Leviathan
    Buried up in Babylon
    Let’s enjoy the ride
    I know that characteristically
I tend to be a people pleaser
And i know you stay pissed at me
Keep me on a list and things
    King Nebuchadnezzar
    I see macro epistemological
    We hurt
    But we’ll be reincarnated
    Through rebirth
It’s just something that I read
    On a t-shirt
And when this life is over
    Someone yelled out
    Play Free Bird

    Hey there superman
Tell me just what you’re afraid of
Step to me and you will see that
    I ain’t no superman
    Hey where you going
    Wait up
You’ve been gone for so long
    Come get a hug

Let me take this chance to say
I think about you every day
Don’t know why it had to be
That we ended up so tragically
Maybe one day we can communicate
    Telepathically
    But until then
    Bad blood keeps coagulating
I’d hoped that we could achieve
    Some symbiosis
    We could coexist
Yeah I know that I missed
    Mad opportunities to connect
    No disprespect
    But I been living
    Up in a prison
    of my own existentialism
Let’s put this water under the bridge

    Hey there superman
Tell me just what you’re afraid of
Step to me and you will see that
    I ain’t no superman
    Hey where you going
    Wait up
You’ve been gone for so long
    Come get a hug

Bryan: 9.5 it took a few listens to fully wrap my head around this track – it sounds like something I would have pulled off kazaa back in the early 90s. it feels so flaming lips/sonic youth that i cant get over it. i love the delivery, the message and stylization of this track. the tie in to the video seems there but from an emotional repsonse angle nothing really direct but somehow that seems to amplify the sense of despondance in the hook. this song is really lovely and I look forward to sharing it with people who I know will like it as much as I do. this beat is gorgeous like seriously gorgeous. there are so many chiptune aritsts that strive for this type of sound and never make the kind of magic pz tapped on. the pixies vibe on this is so raw and a 90s kid like me i mean god damn. i have no complaints and think this track is emotionally moving because of the combination between the vocals and the beat. beautifully balanced and mixed I guarentee you this track will become a favorite of many listeners if the feelies entered the vpc i think they would produce something similar to this. unique, hauntingly beautiful composition is like a perfect merriage between two slightly damaged artists with just the right mix of ennui and schadenfreude and timing and i dont even know yall. youve captured lightning in a bottle here, tackled all the challenges and released a near perfect track. congrats *pual handshake*
MC Lars 6 Like the synth melody, but I think the rapper could be a bit more ahead of the beat, it sounds like he is chasing it, even though he is talented.
Pixelseed: 7 Like the lyrics Relaxing, chill, nice delivery Video seems an after thought
Richie: 8 i like the energy on this song, lol. the singing-but-not-really-singing style on this one works in a humorous way. I feel the flow could be a little tighter in certain parts, in terms of holding syllables, pauses between lines, etc. Those piano chords, love ’em. they compliment the chip arp very well. drums could be a little louder. vox sound very good. challenge met, i held my lighter up throughout this ballad, lol. A few tweaks from perfection.
Rob: 8 The lyrics are great in this one. I had to listen to this song multiple times because it moved me. This song is so chill. It makes me feel comfort. Very warm and well balanced. Extremely well executed and the chiptune parts suported by the rest of the sounds just fits really really well.

They closed the feudal age by burnin all the witches
Turned their back on history and spurned their traditions
To improve the conditions of the capital class
And if you rise against them, they’ll burn your sorry ass
Or maybe that’s a lie, a line we’ve been fed
They want the land they touch to stay the right kind of shade
But if the red shade is wrong they gonna call in the feds
they’ll do what they can to help their banks get ahead
Like they’ll collect a debt or raise somebody’s rent
Who cares if moms are cold if they can stack another cent
We can profit off the children being called up to the bench
After we profit off the chemicals the TV sells to them
They try to play the world like its puppet strings
they promise empty words that don’t mean a thing
And I mean it when I say that they’ll take anything
We gotta hold out – don’t give em anything

    EAT THE RICH

Yaz and Sully, on some felon shit
We eating rich men, so delicate
We drink from polished skulls, so elegant
We on that Feng shui, five elements
Unite elements smoke the prime medicine
Put in the pipe sit tight and fly effortless
Tight like fly emirates dope like tight references
Every line crafted and spat for mad freshness
I just downed a fresh twisty
Sullivan and Yaz do the track from both cities
We light the blunt with it we smoke ourselves foolish
A 45 bangs in the night we get ghoulish
Pass a bullet for the crooks who could use it
Trick or treatin on Wall Street and bruise cruisin
And when the time comes, stay ruthless
The terror we drop – no excuses

MC Lars 5 Great political flow, but I think a theme like this can be better served with a more lighthearted beat. It comes off as too serious and makes it hard to take seriously.
Pixelseed: 8 Nice and subversive lyrics Nice production, delivery, would download Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 7.5 thought the verses were cool, the hook was a bit too repetitive for my taste. if it was 4 bars shorter, it’d work out a bit better as written. i like the drum pattern on this beat. classic hip-hop shit. The drums could hit a little harder tho, as the bassline swallows up the kick from the drum break. vox sound good, though the hook vox could be a hair louder. challenge met. Song is dope and can improve with some small tweaks to the production and the hook.
Rob: 7 Lyrics make a statement so I like that for me it keeps coming back to the simple hook that IMO makes the song. I like how it fades in and the instant hook was a great choice. The panning works well and beats sync well often with the video.

As I travel thru this everlasting realm with speed and ease, I get to battle thru while never catching L’s, so read and weep, you must be kidding me, it shouldn’t be, so hard to get to me, I get to breathe, I get to eat, I’m left to be and then I leave, unfathomable, so try to parry this, you filthy casual, it’s me who wrote the manual, your actions here are laughable, intangible, my size alone is known as indescribable, my presence undeniable, example of the guy I’m who, I’m pliable and malleable, slide in and take a tally of who, grab me a bunch of denizens, then they become my variables, I’m known as the master of disaster when it comes to battling net kids, getting accepted, highly respected, shattering records, cause me and my compatriot, can surely take the cake a lot, we make a lot of hits, legitimately make you shake a lot, a mandelbrot begots complexities beyond the standard lot, the brand is hot, raining fire down upon your vantage spot.

So this, ima take trip, like off the beaten path, I’ll beat you bad, like you were glass, I know its crass, but kiss my ass, it’s quite enjoyable to see you in my concubine, and you’ll enjoy the sound of me for like the longest time, you know that milk was a popular drink, and now it still is, but Milk Plus, a master at play, he’ll hurt your feelings, and X-Man, he’s sort of a dick, but quite endearing, together they are here to destroy, and make a killing, the best part about us two, is that we’re not you, the rest stick around like glue, it’s not about you, a mess, y’all need sound like new, and yo, we got you, but bless what we was fitna do, we running around you

    Hook

so clowns, witness our profound, sound, weighing on your brain, like a half a million pounds, we never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death, brother, and while you were sleeping, I was at third base, with ya stepmother, first things first, man, ya fucking with the worst, I be sticking pins, everywhere, until it fuken hurts, silence is the method that a ‘G’ will use to propagate, avoid lasagna plates, or else a doctors gonna operate, disrespectful fools, you will learn you shouldn’t tolerate, demonstrate a facet of your skill, and they will celebrate, denigrate, or ostracize, they will call you monster thighs, bubble eyes, peanut head, and maybe even meaner things, those bastards on the internet, there’s what, there’s like 15 of them, my wife, she went and left with one of them, what did she see in him???

Bryan: 10 i warned them. i warned everybody this was going to happen. Welcome to the vpc milk+ this track is a riot and classic, og nerdcore. that outro is best of the tournament so far, not just the round and the context of the track keeps me giggling but is also hype as fuck. if you tell me you listened to this track without mouthing along to the hook i will call you liar to your face another stupdenous chiptune beat this track reminds me of the golden age of NES adventure games – this beat could easily be the battle music for any of my favorite puzzle/platform titles. the mix is tight and balances the nuances of the samples and xocs vocal range. super nice offering and exactly what i, as a nerdcore fan, wanted out of this round. mutlis all over the place, nice tie in to the video and a solid chiptune beat with a nice arpeggio on the hook I couldnt ask for anything more. XO sounds like doug funnie (or does DF sound like XO?) at parts in this track and it kinda cracks me up. Start to finish this is a great nerdcore song that meets all the challenge requirements and is, for me, another obvious 10. would slap.
MC Lars 6 Like the “galloping” groove, I think the drums could have been simpler and stronger.
Pixelseed: 6 Like the lyrics, very catchy Sounds good, nice beat Video seems an after thought
Richie: 9.5 The flow on this one? Smooth as fuck. Rhymes were on point as well. This vocalist knows how to get in a nice rhythmic pocket. In terms of song structure, the hook is dope… wish there was something to fill that pause at the 1:00 mark. even if just a refrain of some sort. Im a sucker for a swingy beat, and this one is dope. Melodically, this beat evolves smoothly. Vox are clear, love the robotic effect put on some of the doubles. Nice way of adding that robot element without taking away from the vocal quality. Banger! challenge met, only one tiny gripe, otherwise this song is perfect.
Rob: 8.5 SThe delivery for this one is the other part of this song that stands out for me. Lots of feeling in the delivery with lots of personality. This is a great chipbeat. Makes me happy and a great mix with everything the whole time.

I’ve been thinking about death a lot
    Wish I’d not
Like ending up on the wrong side of YouTube at 3 o’ clock
    In the morning sickness
    Nobody could predict this
giving birth to ideas and theories
    like “Dawg, hit this”
    But get this,
    I don’t smoke
    But I’m with this
Ending up on a government hit list
    For this, sis
    Peeling back layers from abyss
    To make shifts
Makeshift world that we live in
    And coexist
    Life is a simulation
    What’s motivation?
Just take the ladder out from the pool
And watch me drown in a freaking station
    So what they really chasing?
    What should we be embracing?
    Is this that Truman show
    Am I a true man’s show?
    Earth-616 or 1610
    I’m on one without powers
    aren’t I?
    Or unlocking third eye?
    Bullseye
    Go, Go
    Run it, Run it
    Go, Go
    Run it, Run it
    Running from the truth
    Running from the false
Take what I say with a grain of salt
    Go, Go
    Run it, Run it
    Go, Go
    Run it, Run it
Running, running, running and we’re running fast
    Run my simulation
    See how long it lasts
I’ve been thinking about death a lot
    Wish I’d not
Like ending up on the wrong side of YouTube at 4 o’ clock
    Mapping out parallels
    Parallel dimensions
Wondering if sin has led me to these apprehensions
Maybe a better me found a better way
When the devil told me eat that fruit I turned away
Maybe I’m naked and that’s okay
    I’m you
    You’re me
    And we’re awfully gay
The happy kind for my vivid rhymes
The line is awfully fine in these current times
    I’m just tryna shine
    Is this really mine?
All I’ve got is concepts, tools, VR
    Reality
    casually living like a casualty
Who are you to tell me otherwise in my irrationality?
    Pick up ya fragility
Always look for signs and reason

Bryan: 8.5 very smooth delivery and comfortable sound – i like this team a lot and this track is right in line with what i was expecting from the vocalist. i like the video choice for this track but again its from a ‘best choice for the song we made’ type thing. multis are fire and the hypes are excellent. i have literally no complaints about the vocals on this track This is a very smooth chiptune beat with a hifi drum kit – the mix is perfect for this track, highlighting the chip leads and letting the drumkit shine through and establish the rap feel of the track. the sampling work is a little sloppy especially when looking for the arpeggio on the hook which is generally missing. the mix and vocal processing are both top notch here and the fullness of the track has a professional feel to it this track hits the challenges and really only lacks in a feeling of sincerity around the video source. the chip elements are balanced iwth a strong beat and clean mix, carried by some fire bars and great delivery. nice job
MC Lars 5 Hard to hear the flow, but I like the beat. I think a stronger performance and mix would have made this much better.
Pixelseed: 7 Short to the point lyrics Electronic, chip Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 9 This artist’s flow is really smooth… dances all over the beat with ease. That hook got my head bobbing, simple but the cadence carries it in a great way. These vocals are clear as fuuuuck. Beat is good, love the drum pattern on this one. Felt the chip arpeggios durig the hook could be louder. Really the entire mix could be a hair louder, actually. challenge met with ease. A few minor tweaks to the mix would make this perfect!
Rob: 8 A very fresh delivery and another great hook. Very clear delivery. Doubled up vocals are used well. Another simple beat just like I want. Mix is fabulous with lots of layers and littel stuff going on.

    (Verse)

    Reclaimed from the wreckage
    Battle angle
I’m a weapon and I know you sensed it
Now that I got your undivided attention
    Repent like kenshin
And I’ll keep you on the guest list
    I was never born
    I was forged
    Like a sword
    Hive mind like the borg
    Right time to abort
    the mission
Before I sworm and absorb your kindred
    Nerdcore to the core
    I’m a force of distress
    Now get wrecked
    I Got the voltage–
    Juice
    Like the cold press
    You
    Only know less
    News
    I control that
    Too bad
    This little bot finna bang
Yall can’t mess with my strength
    You don’t know what
I got left in my tank
    Tear it down
    Fire sale,
    Skimming on the flames
(You can burn in your fear)
    Only move for the worthy
    Heavy metal like Mjölnir

    (Chorus)

    The unkillable
    get down is digital
    Breaking down
    The lyrical
    individual syllables
    I’m the son of criminals,
Sum of all of their principles
    But now I’m invincible
There’s only one way this can go

    I am the Pinnacle
    Carving in your Subliminal
    Humanity is hurtful, it’s heinous
    And hypocritical
    Stop all the reboots
    Let’s make something original
    Been digging your own grave
But now it’s time to fill the hole

    I said I’ll be back
    So I got buffed up
    Sorry mom and dad
    This is tough love
    You did a bad job
    I got it undone
Man made a man made man
    And he fucked up

    I said I’ll be back

    (Verse 2)

    One thing robots can’t do
    Is let it breathe
    I’m menacing
    Like android 17 on Hennessy
    You best believe
    I’m that glitch,
    The remix and the reckoning
    The Singularity’s beckoning
    Tuck your tech hide weaponry
    Always looking down,
kept us waiting in the mezzanine
    But I am mr. Robot
    Gone viral with the clarity
    I learned a little something
Whilst living in a den of thieves
    Hacking Hip Hop
    Triple h with the pedigree
That line was “the best in the ‘verse'” like Serenity
    Best of all time
Single lady with the wedding ring
Kick it back to Eli in post doing the editing
I’m in this for the process,
    This is just me rendering
    Hopefully I don’t crash,
And I come out with a better me
    Textured and mapped
This all goes deeper than rap
If you can’t pick up the slack
    You can download the app
    Because the pressure is on
You can slip where I slap

    (Chorus)

    The unkillable

Bryan: 7 this is my favorite track of the round from a lyrics and lyricism perspective – the multis are great and the flow of this track is dope. there are some sing/songy off key bits that i could do without but for me that hook is undeniable. this song was brilliant on paper and has a destiny, its just not in this round of the tournament. a darkcore simple beat and growly angry delivery and this track will be something really special. hypes and that filter on them piss me off because this track would be much better without them a mix of chip and hiphop this beat tries its best to deliver both on the challenges and for the vocalist and while i applaud the effort i am certain that with a complete overhaul this track will find success far outside the vpc. i hear a few notes here and there on the hook but its not the arpeggio I was looking for. the bots video fits the feel of this track but there isnt really anything calling out beyond the reboot line and the beat doesnt help there, either as far as this round goes this track missed the mark but that dosent mean its a bad song – to the contrary i think this is a good song that deserves the time its going to take to develop it in to a great single. this is one i will be looking for and sincerly hope yall take another stab at
MC Lars 6 Flow fights the beat a bit, and I think a better mic would make this stronger, but I like the quick flow!
Pixelseed: 8 Short, choppy, matches robot walking Nice update, matches with clunky robot Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 7.5 I like the rhymes on this one, hook was good too. Flow is dope, kinda gets ahead of the beat on one or two occasions. Only think I didn’t like was part with the “lyrical-miracle” rhyme scheme. It’s almost a rite of multi passage at this point, lol. I’m not mad at the melodic aspect of the artists delivery as well. Beat is really cool, but it’s overshadowed by the vocals. They’re too loud in this mix. As a result, it’s really hard to get drawn into the pulse of this song. Chiptunes and multis are there. Very solid song, and with a better mix, this thing would shine even more.
Rob: 6 Something tinny about the vocal track bugs me but thats not on the vocalist. The writing is good but I wasn’t to moved by the song overall. Matching the robot swagger works well in this video matchup. Production is tight.

Bryan: 8.5 nurse hella has been one of my favorites since my initial introduction to nerdcore – nurse hellamentary is still on all my mobile devices and gets regular play. this track has smooth femcee delivery, a great flow and punches that give each bar bite. its not topical but it was a while ago – another thing that keeps poking my brain about this track being older than this round but it works and im not here to hold an inquisition or whatever gg shut up youre great. is this a new beat or was it a good beat you had buried in the vault. WE WILL NEVER KNOW THE TRUTH and honestly thats erotic. mix was not ass. this is another track that feels like it was done ahead of time and had nothing to do with the video chosen – more like its a ‘best fit for what we got’ choice. that said this track is dope. does sarah palin actually have a bunch of porsches? i want to fact check this song. really hot and just happens to satisfy a majority of the challenges since the challenges all put together pretty much represent an ultraklystron song anyway
MC Lars 6 Flow is cool, but mic sounds kind of badly set up, a clearer recording would sound better.
Pixelseed: 7 LOL,Made me laugh. Cute music with not so cute lyrics – I like the confict Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 8 I love the artist’s energy on this… hook is fire. Flow during the verses is very dope. That napoleon blownapart line, nice! Beat has me bouncing, good shit. Thank you for that bassline. Vox sound ok, effects have them sounding a bit telephone-ish, but it kind of works with the chiptune/robotic aspect of the challenge. Both aspects of the challenge complete. Vox could sound a bit better, but this team continues to improve on the production side.
Rob: 7 Complicated rhymes with lots of connections and references.”the life of a LARPer” haha I wanna read these lyrics 5 times more great job. Fuzzy bass works for me. Mix is good. Chip sound choices are also great.

The nine to five that we grind so innocuous
To the populace what we do so monotonous
But nah son, yo the work got weight
Results heavy and the hours be late
I think that we close to finding a solution
Don’t you suppose – some one in collusion
Those who oppose the science that we choose
But it’s counter intuitive if they want us to lose
You say the chance diminutive, that I’m just paranoid
That I’m workin too hard – jumpin, cussin, and annoyed
Boy – lemme tell ya – it ain’t the fatigue
I think the fumes we breathin means we outta our league

The buzzin in my ear don’t stop
From dusk to dawn, in go on, what I hear won’t drop
The buzzin in my ear don’t stop
Tried to ignore and implore, but my brain goin pop
The buzzin in my ear don’t stop
Wanna be home, gotta go cuz the pain up top
The buzzin in my ear don’t stop
The buzzin in my ear won’t stop

So now what do we do? Seems we on borrowed time
We got much to see to – every cell and enzyme
Are we the baddies in the movies heroes fuck up
Cuz we tech savvy manufacturin hella drugs
No! Back to work cuz the coffee talk is done
Reconvene another hour schedule a scrum
Another day in paradise, pass the time away
If you love the work you do, then you livin life okay
Hey – ever wonder what it is that we studyin
Or right after I ask y’all my head be muddy and
Are you sure we workin for somebody who ain’t dubious
Hadn’t seen our lab – tell me you ain’t curious
How long have we been here? Can you answer that?
Anytime I ask the replies fall flat
And before my head starts with the acting up again
How long can you deny that this ain’t all pretend?

The buzzin in my ear don’t stop
From dusk to dawn, in go on, what I hear won’t drop
The buzzin in my ear don’t stop
Tried to ignore and implore, but my brain goin pop
The buzzin in my ear don’t stop
Wanna be home, gotta go cuz the pain up top
The buzzin in my ear don’t stop

Bryan: 7.5 shubs has a unique style and flow that makes her an unmistakable voice to nerdcore fans. this track dosent carry the kind of energy we got from Shubz previous VPC experience or first release but its right in line with her more recent work with Grime Noir. You can almost hear the side eye as the bars breakdown the day of a nerdlife artist on the grind. i like the connection to the video but its shoulder’d on the vocalist as the beat dosent really support the feel of the track or its connection to the video. welcome to the vpc! this track could have been a solid chip submission but the filters on the intrument tracks fuzz them out a little too much – its not as lofi as its muted. the hook is a bit messy but the additional elements are very chiptune and create a sense of panic that fits the atmosphere of the track. the bass drone is my favorite element of the track and i would be that stripping it down to just the drums and bass and shubz would result in a super pleasing track without the distracting additional elements. a solid hook and decent stab at the challenges for a mid-tournament team entry. I am super happy to have this team participating and enjoyed their first submission – once it gets cold out (for about 4 days here in Houston) this will be on my regular rotation for sure.
MC Lars 6 It’s a good beat, but the flow is a bit off. Like the beat!
Pixelseed: 7 Chorus is catchy, simple sweet Upbeat, would love to see live Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 9 that hook is catchy as fuck. Verses are dope as well. The laid back flow makes this the type of song you ride around town in while smoking a nicely rolled blunt. LOVE the bait and switch at the beginning of this. Beat is a banger, those drums are dusty AF. Vox sound great in the mix. I think the hook vox could have did without the differentiated EQ, but otherwise, flames. I heard chips and I heard multisyllabic rips. Only a very minor complaint, but this shit is still a banger.
Rob: 8.5 Shubz delivery is always consistent and I like the general sound of her voice while she rhymes. I believe she believes what she is saying. No stumbles or off beat rhymes everything fits right in the pocket. Old school is what I think right away and I LOVE it and then they change it up OK lets see where this goes…..aaaand then I heard Shubz <3

Bryan: 8.5 My favorite part of the vocal work on this track were the hypes, which a lot of teams failed to make the most of this round. The hypes on this track are all dope, well timed and enhance the punches that come fast and furiously on this intro/diss track aimed at one of our scenes most abusive stepfather figures. digs at chris happened a few times in this round but this track is a straight up call out and while i dont mind it i dont know how it will be recieved by a broader audience. all in all this track hits the challenges and in the spirit of creative freedom in the vpc im juding these bars with an open mind This beat is a very solid compromise to the chiptune challenge – a castlevania type groove from the church organ lead that also serves as the arp on the hook satisfied the challenges. there is not a lot of variety across this beat but the mix work makes up for it by keeping the focus on the vocalist. tight, thumpy and very easy to listen to this track could end up in several playlists across multiple subgenres there was a mission here and this track clearly had began to take form before the challenges were announced for the round. the message is easy to understand and flows well on a chiptune heavy beat that addresses the other challenge parameters. while this wasnt a diss track round it also wasnt specifically not a diss track round and striaght up – its a good song. i can only imagine what the video would look like if the order for this had been reversed.
MC Lars 7 Melody of singing is a bit off, but I like the production and chorus. Great song!
Pixelseed: 8 Cool lyrics right out of the gate Upbeat, nice struggle Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 9.5 Really digging the flow on this one. Rhymes were fucking dope too. Hook is an earworm as well…. and most of all, the vocalist’s energy on this one is full of conviction. Beat is really dope! Love the arps in the track. The moodiness of the beat definitely matches the vocalist’s energy. The way this beat bounces, it’s begging for a bassline. Give me some bottom end. Vocals sound great, I can tell the producer is getting better working with the vocalist’s voice. Good shit. Multis and chiptunes galore. Great execution, all that’s missing is a little more bottom end in the production.
Rob: 9 Despite the lyrics being so crowded they had to punch in sometimes for the next line before the last one was finished it flows super well and is very very strong. Full speed ahead right away a great setup. I love the robot effect at 34 seconds OMG. Works well with the video.

Bryan: 10 multis on multis on multis in a machinegun style delivery that dosent let up for a straight 3 minutes like holy shit NLJ had been established as one of hte most experienced vocal artists and performers in the comp but this tour de force almost feels unfair. like jfc. and putting the lyrics on the video just help show off the style and flow of an expert lyracist. this chippy poppy synthy dancy orgy of analog tech sounds straight out of JRF and belongs at home on GM4A. there are a lot of production tricks at play here along with a full spectral mix that has everything lined out beautifully but the original gameboy/lsdj elements are still up front and easily identifiable – you dont have to look for the chiptune in this beat beacuse rob constantly beats you over the face with them holy shit. ok so a chiptune track for roborob was probably not that challenging so I would expect the beat to just be something out of this world, and for all intents and purposes it is, but NLJ aboslutely steals the show on this track. that second verse are you even fucking kidding me. robots video fits, beat fits, multis are there fuck you this was perfect
MC Lars 9 Great flow and production! I like how the quick rapping matches the beat…. and chorus reminds me of Kris Kross, a forgotten classic group!
Pixelseed: 10 Love it, Come on, who doesn’t like a Pol Pot reference. Upbeat, fast, works with clunky robot, aggressive, text on screen works well Nice text, Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 10 The rhymes on this thing…phew. Some of the best-executed multis of the round. NLJ’s flow is always top-tier, and this round doesn’t disappoint. That second verse? Man…wow. Chiptune sounds have a funny way of revealing just how good (or bad) a composer is when it comes to chord arrangements, etc. With that said, the produciton on this is fucking fire. Despite all the instrumentation going on, the vocals never feel overpowered. Great mix. killed everything about the challenge.
Rob: 9.5 This kid has skill and goes hard the whole time. I had to take my headphones off for this one because its a club banger. no need to comment on the production because it was simply spot on. I would like to hear something more traditional style hip hop rather than always a club hit but I can’t complain about what they are doing because its great I just am curious to hear what they would do in a diff direction than what at this point is expected from this team.

Bryan: 9.5 Holy shit. So these bars are fucking fire and the flow goes fuckin hard. the hook works for me but the delivery is a little over the top for whats otherwise a prime ‘fu im awesome’ track. that closing bar was just the punch i was expecting but the outro drones one a bit long but its obvious that was to playout the end of the track so in the context of the video challenge its acceptable but i would cut it for an album or single release, which this track should absolutely get This beat puts that bassline to work overtime providing the driving harmonic element as well as the arp on the hook. square wave bass synths are chiptune by their nature but the lead stabs were not chiptune enough for me. lofi drum kit, flat hits, muted percs and a fat kick – everything about this formula was perfect for the challenge except the big chiptune feel. the mix, especially the vocal mix on this track, is exactly what i expected out of this team and sounds beautiful a nearly perfect track and one of my favorites of the round. hits all the challenges and delivers and great track to boot
MC Lars 7 Great beat, but the flow seems a bit off and the melody is off-key…. but the concept is dope!
Pixelseed: 5 Misses the mark for me Sounds good, nice beat Video matches +1 pt, feels forced
Richie: 7.5 Flow is really cool, and the vocalist’s energy here is great. I felt the “science” refrain at the end went on a little too long. Beat is cool, feels a bit simple during the first half of the verses (before the bassline). could use another instrument to round things out more during that part. Vocals sound very crisp, I like that. Good use of multis, and the beat is chippy AF. A few tweaks could make it an even better jam!
Rob: 7 Delivery is cool and I like the ‘scientist’ sounding chorus a nod to weird science in my head at least. Fun song. Beat is a’ight but I’m not a fan of tyhe music in this one for whatever reason. Just seems a bit plain to me.

Bryan: 7 flows are strong and multis are plentiful – the hook is a bit of a bummer ‘i couldnt make a hook for the robots’ i mean the delivery and flow work but I dont think it could get more pedestrian from a content perspective. it reminds of pj masks intro (my kids love pj masks): “bedtime, is the right time, to fight crime… i cant think of a rhyme” its cute and it works but its also a song for four year olds. the verses deliver tho on fire bars and decent punches with a flow thats easy to bop to. simple but effective the beat here is reliable and easy to listen to start to finish without feeling tired or repetitive. this is a very solid hiphop beat and compliments the vocalist very nicely but it lacks the chiptune feel that was asked for. thats my only complaint – as for compliments the drum kit on this beat shines to me and that kick is delicious there is no doubt that this track was inspired by the video the team chose and each challenge is tackled directly. the chiptune thing was challenging for a lot of producers but the track is still solid. the arp on the hook is simple but effective and the multis sound smooth af on this down beat banger. fun word play and some name droppin make this a track i have come back to more than once a day
MC Lars 6 Love the flow but it seems to battle with the beat, the synths are a bit off from the drums, although I like their hard work.
Pixelseed: 6 Hook is funny but falls short, like the verses Sounds good, nice beat Video matches +1 pt, feels forced
Richie: 9 verses are fire… this is some real rap shit right here. Multis and punchines galore. Would have liked the hook brought back around once more after the last verse (over the beat switch-up), but otherwise, this is dope. I think the beat is really cool. Like how the producer pulls the bassline out last 4 bars of the verse. That’s some shit I’d do, lol. Vocals sound really good. That switch up at the end was dope. Multis are there, beat could have had a more obvious chiptune element, but overall, good shit.
Rob: 5 Pretty on the nose about the robots haha 🙂 Not really feeling the chiptune vibe on this one but nice track.

Bryan: 8 this track fires off right from the start and hits the listener hard and fast with solid bars and flowing mutlis – the verses are stronger than the hook but that is not uncommon and its not like the hook is bad – its just a change of pace from the heavy, fast moving verses. relatable topic and speaks to the droids video in an automotons life kind of way. this beat is hauntingly beautiful with that low wind, deep bass and t h i c c k i c k giving this not even close to a chiptune beat a rumbly presence that is really nice to listen to. the beat also perfectly compliements the vocalist but the subtle chiptune elements dont stand out. the arp on the bridge is nice but doesnt fill the gap on its own. the mix is excellent and the execution of this composition is pleasing in all the right ways. I would have liked the chiptune part of this challenge to be taken more seriously but the quality of this track is top tier. Ive mentioned this on a few other tracks this round but with excellent bars and vocal delivery on a tight and well mixed beat the only loss here is from the challenges and at this point in the tournament those 2 points can cost you.
MC Lars 6 Great chorus, but the beat gets a jumbled, I think it could behoove them to stick to one melody in the beat.

Richie: 10 Hottest hook of the round. This team is always top-tier when it comes to songwriting. Sheesh. Verses are flames as well. This beat is HEAT. Balanced really well, love the low end. Vocals are thiccc and clear. The effects on the vocals during the hook? Perfect. Chip elements are there, multis are there, and 10 points are there too. Wow.
Rob: 7 I have to work tomorrow so I’m jealous of the antagonist at first for getting to sleep until 2. Nice flow clear delivery and a story I can follow. No strain in the delivery it sounds natural. I like the high hats (?) In the beat. Vocal effects in the song work really well. I like that the vocalist shows off that they can rhyme and sing and it comes easy for them. I feel like I said this before about this artist in a previous round but I am still a big fan of the sytle so I’ll say it again.

Bryan: 7.5 not sure whats different about btypes vocals and how they were worked on this track, but things do not sound crisp. i would almost believe this cut was done on a shit tier mic while b was on vacation or something. hte bars are decent but the delivery and vocal mix detract from the quality punches – and then theres the hook. no sir, i dont like it. i get it and its fun and, as the outro suggests, would probably be hella fun to sing along with at a pub show, but the track is not punk rock enough to make this a hook i would sing along to in my car. youd have to be lit. and with your mates. and already singing to other stuff and be like OH YEAH LETS SPIT in which case the bar maids would hate us all another purely chiptune track, from the bass to synth(s) to drum kit this track bleeds 8bit dos and would be my first pick for level music in a reboot of the leisure suit larry series. great chiptune instrumental, some decent multis, a few hype lines here and there and lacking a defined arp, this is another maybe slap it later mix is ass middle ground track
MC Lars 7 I do think this is a dope concept, but it could be better mixed and mastered. The originality is tight but it’s very hard to hear the rapper.
Pixelseed: 4 Misses the mark for me Video seems an after thought
Richie: 7 This song is funny, I appreciate the humour. The rhymes are cool, felt the flow could be a little tighter, but overall I like it. Vocals feel like they need to be doubled during the hook. This beat is very whymsical, for some reason I feel like I’m playing Toejam & Earl while listening to this. Overall, song mix could be a lot louder. It’s like… really hush quiet. challenge complete, has room to improve re: delivery and mix, but otherwise a solid entry
Rob: 6 This song is just people having fun and I like that and I want more. This is closer to what I was looking for but I’m not so into the simple baseline. I like the crunchy sound that comes in late. The distortion is so crunchy it sounds almost wong but I know better. At the 2 minute mark it suddenly speeds up for a second and it makes me wonder was some of this played live and not programmed? I love the end a LOT haha.

C’est La Vie Lyrics x Sleeping Dragon
    VERSE 1
    Let’s get ready to rumble
Words among you, surround you like a funnel
The drums just son’d you, I’m Sun Tzu of the Tongue Fu
It’s first and goal on the one, my advice is don’t fumble (you better punt)
You’ve reached the end of this tunnel, stay humble
I spit a double rhyme, two at a time, trouble toil and bubble
Spit a rebuttal with a subtle line…leaving puzzled minds
Judges confused by the running time, I run daze (days), like its summertime
It’s pure divine, you’re sure to find imagination
Go the whole nine, throw spins, rotate in adoration…
Just inferior stars at half-illumination…in this rap situation…each thought and observation
An amalgamation of a calculation, it gets lost in translation
My vocation is getting standing ovations, my motivation, draw lines like animations
Gifted illustrations, pouring libations, get a taste of elevation…

    GAMER MANTRA HOOK:
Been a few places, made some new friends
Played a lot of games, got a lot of wins
Met some heroes, got some cheat codes
    I’m a tell my tale, don’t at me bro…
I’m say my peace, and speak my speech,
That’s how it all goes, C’est La Vie (repeat refrain)
    VERSE 2:
I’m too big to be little, instead I riddle second fiddles
And whittle at the woodwork, until its middle’s brittle
Still it takes acquittal to get you off the hook sun,
Each sentence has the rhythm to plan whole book from
It’s grand, Tek holds the recipe, so watch him cook one
Understand, this jam’s a specialty, doesn’t it look fun
We took guns and loaded ‘em with words, no rehearsal
I could flip this script dyslexic, showing holy flow reversal
These cats should notice virtue, close-mindedness may hurt you
Check the finest rhyme dispersal, working with a timeless curfew
Spray you with the perfume, no scent of thirst, I versed you, on a unique turf
The ether, reach ya, Feet first to greet earth, like breeched birth
no question here …this is proof and vindication
I, alone, raise the bar …send law students invitations
Who’s lockin’ shit- we got skeleton keys for the apocalypse
Flip it like a toggle switch–put on your safety goggles, kids
Pack tons-of-guns, .38 caliber tongue, Pull no punches or puns
Even in battles with nuns, I leave plans stunned, like “insufficient funds”
    You’ve heard the sound…Sleeping Dragon’s on a vision quest
Wondering why they even try to fly, when they’re mission’s less…

Bryan: 7 I like this team a lot and I like Prowess a lot – this is a solid rapper and vocal artist who I want to hear more of, outside the context of hte vpc because i just dont think this team is playin for the vpc. this is definitely good rap, its definitely good nerdy rap and the sleeping dragons team is exceptionally good at what they do – but this is the third round where the track, regardless of how much i like it, feels like it was something in the vault that is now getting some miles in this contest. this is a great track and im going to score it as such but the connection to the challenges and the community just isnt there for me this beat is another great 90s r&b flavored hiphop beat but it completely misses the mark on the chiptune challenge and as such bricks on the video challenge as well. the MGS samples sorta work – on the bridge they arent clean enough to really fit in the song, but the communicator samples are nice little elements in the second verse without any real context. if the assumption here was a few video game samples from a ps2 track would make this a chiptune track then more research was needed a really great song that got submitted to round 3 of this vpc – failed to meet generally all of the challenge parameters with the exception of fire multis and hype lines
MC Lars 8 OMG this song is amazing. Love the flow and rhythm, amazing hook too.
Pixelseed: 9 Cool lyrics, well done Aggressive, struggle works Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 9 BARS, holy fuck. That hook is an earworm. That second verse tho… you really spazzed. Christopher George Latore Wallace would appreciate the flow on this one. THIS BEAT THO, WOW. Instant head bobber. That switch up tho, not mad at that at all. Song mix has a bit too much bottom end. Overall, the production and mix give me Biggie vibes. The scratches at the end? Nice touch. challenge items met, this is a really dope song, minor tweaks to mix and it’s perfecto
Rob: 6 Lots of wordplay but this one took some time to grow on me until the big change at 1:30. Not a bad song but not thie winner in this round. I’d like to hear something different from this artist because they are good and clearly clever with their writing. This song comes hard and is tough but I’m not until the big change around 1:30 was truly interessted. I like that it got bigger and added a a whole lot more chip.

Tetris! A classic game from Nintendo
The mathematical operation will put your brain in limbo
Hold the directional pad down to make the piece go faster
This revolutionary game will take patience to master
Tetris! Déplacer la pièce à droite
If the blocks stack too high, then the game stops
Murder your score, it’s a falling block holocaust
Kill ‘em permanently, just like the triceratops

Do you ever get the feelin, to play a retro game?
It gets my body tinglin’, like I’ll never be the same
Pop it in my Game Boy, like a game extraordinaire
Make my fingers hustle like a Freudian billionaire
Korobeiniki, as the blocks they start to fall
Fill the empty spaces on the screen before it gets to tall
I control the tetromino, or is it tetromino?
How do you pronounce it? Well, Helliphino!

I really need that four-square horizontal piece
Its the only one that can make the screen complete
I am mentally begging for the four-square horizontal piece
Is it coming up next? Nope…. Ok. Imma head out.

Sirtet! A new release from Bethesda
    A multi-dimensional game, mathematical ninja
Primary objective, crack the combination code
Before the timer runs out and locks you in boot mode
Sirtet! Déplacer la pièce à gauche
Match the codex to the color then move down a row
Execute the sorting of all the algorithms
While maintaining control of the hyperbolic rhythm

A virtual experience puts the players to the test
Use metadata to send info to an address
No use for a controller, move formulas with your hands
It’s like Gerard and de la Rocha reuniting both their bands
Fair use of nostalgia, as Stick Stickley puts it
Drop the codes, match the colors, the perfect game, exquisite
We know that it’s not perfect, you’re judging out of spite
But Sirtets next review says, “A mediocre delight”
It’s petty, it’s heavy, it weighs more than a yeti
Makes my phalanges feel like a pound of uneaten spaghetti
The game is really hard and it’ll push you to the limit
    It’s so complicated, I don’t understand what’s in it
There is no pause options, and it doesn’t keep score
It’s a redundant, complicated, proverbial sore
No extra lives, no second chances
Once you die, you’re dead, and no one advances

Tetris! We see you there at St. Basil
They won’t gimme the block I need, what a bunch of assholes
Ax and Huge Euge to deliver on Round 3
Separate we’re individuals but together we have the key
    Sirtet! Le jeu est terminé!
We just popped so many rows it should be a felony
But now the stack is too high, we just can’t keep up
Now my controller stopped working, ugh, this sucks!

Aw common. Aw. This stupid controller. Ax, dude, it’s busted man.
Aw man. Aw for real? I hate this game. I’m done with it.

Bryan: 8.5 huge euge reminds of insane ian and its fun to have that type of delivery in the vpc – the flows are alright, deadpan delivery about everyones favorite puzzle block game. the multis are there, even if they are a little forced and intentionally nested in the hook. speaking of the hook, fun and relevant to our heros namesake but after a while the surprised hip professor lecturer delivery vehicle gets old this track might have been made on a gameboy, i cant tell but it sounds genuine chiptune and its stupdenous. hte mix is a little rough especially on the low end but that also sounds pretty chiptune. the beat gets reptitive over time but it carries the song well and fits the challenge parameters except for the arpeggio – a minor oversight on a really solid, unmistakeble chiptune beat a solid track and one of the only purely chiptune beats in the round, the vocal delivery gets a bit tiresome over three minutes but the humours subject matter helps keep the ship afloat – hitting nearly all the challenges helps boost an already solid track for round 3
MC Lars 7 I think the mic could be nicer and the vocal production could be better, but I love the flow and it works in a Wu-Tang kind of way. This is the best beat I’ve heard the entire challenge.
Pixelseed: 7 Cool lyrics, song is ok Catchy chiptune, robots not best choice for subject Video matches +1 pt
Richie: 7.5 I like the energy put into the vocal performance on this one. Lots of personality, lol. Did you just rhyme backwards words? That takes talent, lol. Flow could be a bit more on the nose rhytmically at certain parts. the beat is cool, I like the swing. i appreciate how lo-fi this beat sounds, it works. The main melody line is an earworm for sure. Good shit. With that said, I think the vocals sound muffled. great entry, challenge items met. A better vocal mix would improve this.
Rob: 6 Ya lyricist is great no doubt but this wasn’t the best I have heard from them. Not a fan of the vocal effect. Sounds like he’s singing into a plastic cup. Music is cool but doesn’t really go anywhere and gets old fast. Ya I can’t get over the vocal effect.

    HOOK…

    OUTRO
Hey chris who’s your pick for VPC? (I want you to leave me alone)

  • addJudge scores

Bryan: 8 everything up to the end was a+ – the end memes are fun and all but the vocal harmonization was so bad it made me wish yall scrapped this bit. again not because its in bad taste but because your singing voice sucks. the hook on this track really shines and deserves a proper rework because im positive nerdcore fans would love this nerdcore song as close to chiptune as you can get without downloading lsdj and composing your track on a gameboy this beat is thick, juicy and hits hard with a very nice bassline and drum kit – the blips and bloops are nice additions that really bring the chip feel forward. the arpeggio on the hook is simple and effective – really nice. you picked robots because robots are nerdcore. i think yall wanted to do this track before the challenge happened and youre lucky its a great song only losing two points on the video relationship and that straight ass outro
MC Lars 7 I do appreciate the shout out, but I don’t think we need to diss other rappers. I do think this song is awesome though and I love the concept.
Pixelseed: 5 Misses the mark for me Like the music, music works with robot. Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 8 Aiight, this song deserves a 15 just for the dolemite reference alone. I thought the flow was solid, but could be a tad tighter in certain spots. The singing part at the end was funny as fuck, it just went on for 30 seconds too long. The beat is dope, love the melody. The switch up into the “who’s your pick for VPC” part was a nice touch. Felt the adlibs could be EQ’ed in a way that differentiates them a bit more from the vocal track. challenges met, dope song, a few tweaks to mix and song structure and it’s even better.
Rob: 7 Picking this song title makes me more interested so good job there. Monotone delivery was not my fav but then the outro had me almost fall off my chair. Nice sounds at the start but it was kinda repetitive the outro is funny. might have benefitted the song to go with that theme the whole time. I liked the singing part in the outro the best I think even if it wasn’t a joke.

    I
invited you in my home, You
decided you didnt wanna be alone, You
confided you didnt have no place to go
    so I said
    Hey,
Do you wanna live with me
it could be just like a slumber party
I know its hard, but it’s okay
But oh lort, theres no way
That things could ever go wrong
Cause i’ve known you for so long
If only I knew that the situation
Would almost end up in litigation
    But Now,
You alone lost in a crowd
    Ooh, atone seekin for how
You’ll get out of this one now
End up above water on the ground
    You’re the parasite
    Don’t bite me
    You’re the parasite
    Just leave me be
    You’re the parasite
    Don’t bite me
    You’re the parasite
    Just leave me be
    You,
Went and threw a pity party
Decided to not to invite me
    (ya) You cut me out
    (oh) You’re blunt with shouts
    (Ya) You front with loud
    And I
    Decided to say goodbye
Distance away from you I would like
You’re making me so depressed, I mean what the heck
    And now i’m a wreck

    Cause
I stuck around and hoped that youd get better
I stuck around and nope its a never
I stuck around probed into the endeavor
Of your sick scam, you thought that you were clever
And now you message me at 3 am, thanksgiving morning
Got my boyfriend rolling over askin what is goin on and
Im like jesus christ, you’ll never guess who it is
Blue haired bitch, why you still up in my biz?
    You’re the parasite
    Don’t bite me
    You’re the parasite
    Just leave me be
    You’re the parasite
    Don’t bite me
    You’re the parasite
    Just leave me be
Now you knew that your reddit account was always public
But you’d blog all night on that shit after another binge
You wanna blame me til the end of time for your mucked up sitch
think I always knew deep down that you were a fucked up bitch
Thought you were above it all and didn’t have to ever pay rent
Thought that you were better when it came down to the dollar and cent
But one thing i’ll never ever fucking ever forget
I came back from starborob’s wedding and you stole my insulin
Got your mom in my dms yellin it’s always my fault and
I’m an alcoholic whore, well shit your daughters an adult and
Who the fuck is gonna reimburse me for the three thousand
She stole, and ruined and, the torment of the fucking master plan
thought we were ride and dies, had each other until the very end
But you called the police on me but they took you away instead
really hope to god you got some help for your mental head
dont want or need you in my life but I dont want you dead
    You’re the parasite
    Don’t bite me

Bryan: 9 twill keeps hitting those lady gaga feels except this track has a special surprise for everyone in the third verse where twill kind loses her shit and starts firing off some bars that would impress lady j and her commrades in wts. that rapid fire verser and its naturally flowing multis reminded me, and im sure everyone else, that twill is more than a dirty pop diva, shes also a damn good rapper if tiffany was doing music in a post marilyn manson america her beats would have sounded like this. hackney is getting better with his mixes on each round – the layering and arranging were never a problem and they still arent. the fx work on the hook is also a really nice addition and show off move from a producers perspective. the beat reminds me of something from marble panic or mercury – heady puzzlers from the psp era. the samples for the bridge are great and i iwhs i knew where they were from this is a hella good track start to finish with a great and obvious tie in to the video material – i would have liked more chiptunes in this pop track but thats a small complaint on an otherwise great submission
MC Lars 9 Love the flow! So awesome. This is jam, the chorus is awesome too.
Pixelseed: 9 Love the opening, both styles, lyrics work well Aggressive, upbeat, catchy Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 9 great vocal performance. Twill is definitely one of the top artists in this competition when it comes to recording the perfect energy behind each word. Song was well-writtten. I’d say the song would be even better with one less informational speech part, lol but otherwise an enjoyable listen. Beat compliments the artist’s style very well. i like the switch up after the 2nd hook, perfectly placed and kept things fresh. Producer is very good at playing with the vocal mix in a way that complements the artist. challenges met, what an energetic and unique song! Not much to complain about on this one.
Rob: 8 I had a little trouble following the delivery and thats a pet peeve of mine but whatever lets face it you got skill and can sing and are consistently creating and I’m a fan this just isn’t my fav from this vocalist. I like the samples. Music sounds big and full.

Bryan: 7 the kenny g r&b feel really works on this track and with the beat, or at least what you can hear of it as this mix pushed everything down to bring the vocals up. if you remember the diggable planets this delivery has a real cool like that feel to me. i like the hook a lot and dig the nerdy guy comic hero rapper story thing it all works i just wish it sounded better. delivery and flow are solid but the breaks between takes to remove audible breathing stands out a little since the vocals are so on top of everything else. great bars and punches, nice melodies and vocal work througout another really solid beat that struggled with the chiptune part of the challenge – sure there are plenty of chiptune samples in there but the composition dosent really create a chiptune song – its very much a hiphop track and a solid beat but the few consistent flavor bits and samples are buried in a bad max, making the focus that warble bass synth on the hook that, unfortunately, isnt an arpeggio. follow your heart, open your daw, and replace all the chip stuff you hated with samples you love and make this one for the team to savor and re-release after the tournament is over this song makes me feel like the team hated this challenge and did what was necessary to deliver for the round. nothing special but not terrible, hte mix is ass, would not slap
MC Lars 8 Amazing flow and I love the organic bass, this is a great song and story!
Pixelseed: 8 Agressive yet smooth, nice chorus Sounds good, nice beat Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 9 aye, i love how this song comes in. Gave me classic nate dogg west coast vibes. Felt the flow on this was really dope. The melodic parts of your vocal performance were well done. Beat complements the artist’s vocal style perfectly. Definitely had me bobbing my head. Felt the vox sit well in the mix as well. Could use maybe a little drum fill , drop, or something every now and then or so just to add a bit more spice and variation. challenges met, wow that hook is catchy as fuck. Very minor changes will make this a 10.
Rob: 8.5 I like this one a lot great flow and sound and beat and use of the sounds with the singing makes it one of my favs so far. Hey look its some standard hip hop. Just like I like it 🙂 plain simple honest beats and a little subltel stuff here and there. This track has style.

If you recall the name, it’s cause it gains a rep,

From all that we’ve done, we were made for this,
going up against us is dangerous,
in a simulation same as the matrix is,
I’m like Neo battling a hundred agent Smiths //

Sick of the baloney we use Konomi code,
every rapper phoney without a Shinobi flow,
pushing the envelope everywhere dat we go,
we’ll meet you on the podium in story mode //

Not a fan of the teams they awarding yo,

brutally destroy everything dat they threw at me //
pulling off stunts in dis online community,

Bryan: 9 bout fuckin time. the multis in this track are effortless and land like carpet bombs across the confederate south – this track obliterates me and ive been trying to learn it and keep up with the double time delivery on the verses. the hook is dope – nothing super special but it works as the connective tissue for the absolutely fucking brutal verses. this beat is fuckin hot and i love it – like i love this beat so much I want to take the crayondroids treatment to it. kill that intro just take it out entirely and drop right in to this fierce face melting nonsense. hte bass line and sample are solid but the star of the show here is that drum kit and fatty fatty 808. the hook is dope as fuck too everything about the raw bones of this beat appeal to me. the mix was obviously a struggle but even so, you found a sweet spot and made an excellent, if not muted, track I spoke to the other challenge parameters in the v and p specific feedback so all thats left here is the video, which… works? I guess? i suppose its the best choice of the three and im not going to pitch a fit about the song and video relationship being an afterthought because hte song is just so fucking good. you should hear this shit in my suv like holy shit that bass hits soooo nice
MC Lars 6 I can tell the rapper is great, but this is mixed very poorly in my opinion. The beat is great though and so is the flow, it could have been a bit stronger with a tighter production. I love the quick rapping though, it’s awesome.
Pixelseed: 8 Aggressive, conflict, hooks me right away Sounds good, nice beat Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 8 The flow on this? Crazy. It’s hard to flow fast without multis sounding forced, but this was very well done. The pause between the end of verse and the hook feels unneccesary. Beat is cool, great use of chip arpeggios. love the MK vocal samples. I felt the beat could use some variation in the drum pattern, it kind of gets repetative. Overall mix could be louder. challenge met, really dug the vocalist’s flow on this one. Can improve with minor tweaks to song structure and production.
Rob: 8 So on point with the rhymes in this one. fast and crisp. Effects used well and I believe help make it clear as well. This song is also quick and to the point I like the bass sound and the fast clicky beat a lot too.

It started out innocuous, less obvious, more innocent
But parted now incongruous, best audience, poor little kids

Bryan: 8.5 simple and direct delivery of some pretty smooth doubles are the clear focus for the vocalist here. it works both for a solid track and to hit the challenges and knock them out. idk if the doubles and echo effects really count as hypes but its a fair attempt. the sleepy hook would piss me off if it didnt just happen to fall right in to place in this track. all in all this was a fun track to listen to and may get more slaps in the future, when im feeling emo or something idk this is another beat that reminds me a lot of the stuff I listened to in highschool back when moby wasnt very good (or really good, depending on your opinion of moby). I like the beat and its a straight forward pop response to the challenges. the arp on the hook is there and the synthpop beat is pretty chippy. good effort with a decent mix. ok. thumbs up. a solid chip tune nerdcore pop track – the fadeout at the end kind of abruptly ends things but maintains that 80s feel. i would not be surprised if this track got lots of play in local malls across minnesota in winters of 84-88
MC Lars 6 I like the original chorus, but it could be in pitch more, but I like the flow and story telling. The melody on the synth line is great.
Pixelseed: 7 Like the verses Sounds good overall, chorus seems out of place Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 7 Thought the multis on this one were good. I don’t know what you were saying during the vocoded parts, but it sounded cool, lmao. The singing parts felt a little lazy. beat is jovial as fuck, i like it. Chiptune elements were very well executed here. Felt the vox need a bit more high-end in the mix and were dripping with reverb that kind of muddies things up. Challenge met, song had a nice happy vibe. A few tweaks to the vocal mix and song structure can help this song be more than equal to supervillain.
Rob: 7 At first the singing part I want more enthusiaism but then I like the muted vibe. The ending I was not a fan of though. Having a few different parts to this song makes it interesting to me. It has a nice feel to it like I might end a set with a song like this. great use of the chip sounds in this one.

Bryan: 10 khills delivery on this track absolutely has to deliver on tight, agressive punches or the beat will leave him in the dust – lucky for everyone who happens across this track he executes his lines like its just another day at the killing office murdering bars. the hook is fun im not sure if this is about mosquitoes or vampires or what the difference is really and thats another high point of this track. fun to listen to and already on my driving playlist, this track slaughters everything about round 3. great flow and multis just put a cherry on top this beat could very well be one of hte best beats in hte comp, helping this track be one of the best goddamn tracks in this (or any) vpc. the balancing in the mix is purrrrrrrfect across teh entire track. a driving bassline and hard hitting kick frame out an agressive chiptune beat that would be right at home in an ps1 brawler or drift racer. the sampling work is expertly displayed with the signature thought criminals coin hit at just the right times (all hte coins, kid). the arp on hte hook is front and center and that backend breakdown with the strings is something from another world – dropping right back in to that panic inducing hook. excellent work. my only criticism is the drum kit is too live and not synth enough for the challenge, but the track is so good i cant fault you for going the route you did the first REALLY convincing example of a song inspired by the video – no compromises around the story, delivery, composition or instrumental and hitting every single point from the challenges on the head makes this my frist obvious 10 of the round
MC Lars 8 Like the flow and beat, but I also think the vocals could be louder. But this is tight, and has a great groove. Rapping could be a bit clearer.
Pixelseed: 9 Love the hook, cool lyrics I would download this song Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 9 flow on this was great. The refrain on the hook is catchy. felt the energy during the hook was especially great. Sometimes the doubles felt a bit out of sync, but overall very solid performance. Beat has a banging kick, yeah I like that. Love the chiptune organ during the hook. This beat does not get boring… at all. Vocals sound straight, although the flangy the effects on the vocals around 1:40 hurt a tad more than they help. challenges there, very well-executed. A few minor changes and this thing is perfect.
Rob: 10 I was so focused on the music It didn’t register who was rhyming and thus who was making this beat. I think this contest has formed a very very tight team in this team and I am soooo happy this is happenning. Great beat right away. organs and that bass beat yep. I was worried a lot of the people sampling chip would bother me but this is some great execution.

    I wanna hear them
    Harmonize the hardware systems
    Orchestrate the algorithms

    Verse 2
I have a perfectly legitimate endearing reason
To excommunicate myself from this menial
An archaic sound state it really resonates
Especially now in this futuristic hellscape
Electromagnetics zapped me outta my stagnant
So I went and signed up for this fucking pageant
My mental illnesses divulged Imma tank it
But my coping mechanism gets ’em fucking crankin

Bryan: 9.5 this reminds me of so many synthcore bands from the 80s and early 90s but i cant put my finger on one single example you sound like, and thats good imho. this is a hella fun song and i love the hook. honestly love it. this will make a really fun call and response track in my imaginare pax lineup with the very approrpaite visuals working in hand. the delivery and cadence speaks to the 80s synthcore stuff that forged our little pop niche that chiptunes sits in now and is perfectly delivered. mixed right on top, the vocals on this track are a surprising treat in the middle of the list beat is solid, the rick and morty sample positions the track nicely letting the vocalist here drop in to a pretty straightfoward delivery of several well positions doubles and triples. the bridge to the chorus was ok but then the hook hits and its fun as fuck. for everything i like about this track i wish it was about something slightly more relatable, or maybe less polarizing, depending on your opinion of rick and morty but again the sampling in the intro and outro work and the arp on the hook sounds sweet. this is a great beat and the foundation of a really awesome track mundane monsters gave us a track that is a lesson in chiptune nerdcore fusion – everything about this track is great in my opinion. delivery is unique and intentionally nerdcore without being pandery in a steve tibbs type of way. the beat is everything we asked for in a chiptunes challenge and then some and the mix is well balanced and pleasant to listen to. this is a great track
MC Lars 7 I like the beat, but the drums should be louder. I like how his tone and timbre change a lot, that works well for this rapper.
Pixelseed: 7 Like the verses Music works with video Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 7.5 vocal delivery was good on this one. Felt the flow could be a little better in certain spots. Hook felt a bit syllable-heavy for a chorus. this beat sounds straight out of a retro game, down to the drums. Also, i’m not mad at the effects on the vocals that make them sound robotic. Hook overpowers the beat in the mix, just a tad. I like the melodic switchup during the hook. The vocal mix gave me a mystery science theatre intro vibe for some reason, lol. challenges met. an enjoyable listen with room to improve.
Rob: 8 Ya I think the only thing hurting this song is the music is a bit muted overall. Like I get this safety dance vibe from that bass and beat but its not thick enough. The music is really awesome but I wish it was mixed better because that baseline is really fun.

Bryan: 7 I want to like the raps on this track but I just dont. The mumm-ra repeating over the chorus gets old fast and its just not a very good braggadacio track. some of the multis flowed well while others had over-the-top syllable drags to make things work. phoned in? you betcha. also not sure about the lyrics and their idenfiable relationship to the video, like it was an afterthought this is a prime beat – so prime I hope its released as an instrumental after a little more work on the drums and the mix/master. this is an excellent chiptune beat with a really smooth drum kit and bass line. the sampling work is also smooth and everything generally blends well. smooth is a good word for it. its just smooth. smooth. this sum total of this song is weaker than its individual parts, which is why i score VPC tracks on three categories; the beat, the vocals and the challenges. in this setup the all of the challenges combined only represent a third of the overall score. in this case the instrumental out performs the vocals and had to carry this track to a decent score. when you hit half the marks on two thirds of the scoring matrix hitting top 50% is going to be a challenge
MC Lars 8 I like this chorus and how the synth kind of acts as a kick drum too. Great chorus too, this song is a winner.
Pixelseed: 5 Misses the mark for me Sounds good, nice beat Video seems an after thought
Richie: 8.5 now this is some real rap right here. digging the flow, and i’m a sucker for fighting game bars. sample in the hook makes this a call and response banger for live shows. beat is decent, i think the drums could hit a little harder tho, particularly the kick, it kind of gets lost in that thicc bassline. Vocals sound straight, and I love the delay on the vocals at the end of the hook. The glitch at the end of the song felt really long chips and multis for days. good raps on this song, a few tweaks away from perfection.
Rob: 8.5 Lyricist has talent but this isn’t the one for me although the hook is fun. Thick beat but the lyrics are a bit too in front for melike the music is a bit subdued. Then halfway through the song it gets super experimental and I LOVED that. Ya the super wacked out parts of this track make it so cool to me.

Bryan: 8 multis are a neat thing – 2’s can happen almost naturally, but 3s and 4s in rapid succession can create a marathon of a track for the vocalist. i enjoy imagining desh delivering this track live – and while im sure he can handle it this one will be a workout. tight flow and delivery with no fumbles – lots of fun but hard to relate to the video, at least it was for me. everything is there for me but if I was watching this live I wouldnt really be moved by the visuals, which I guess is ok because I was be fixated on desh anyway This beat is Gross and that sucks – solo needed to reach outside of his comfort zone here but instead tried to lofi his style and stick with the tools he uses frequently. the beat is great, really solid for this song, and tho you might here an instrumental like this in a very dramatic game from the 16bit ear (thinking myst/gabriel knight etc) that dosent make this a chiptune beat this is a great song – a really great song. from a technical perspective, production quality, lyricism its a great track – but making a great track is just part of the challenge. the score wont suffer greatly but it will be enough to let the other teams slip ahead of you on some technicality nonsense
MC Lars 7 Great energy and love the atmospheric beat. Totally tight! Nice work.
Pixelseed: 7 Love the lyrics and delivery Aggressive and smooth, nice Video seems an after thought
Richie: 10 Flow is really crazy on this one. Vocalist switches cadences with incredible ease. Hook very catchy. Flow is on point every step of the way, sheesh. beat on this one is FLAMES… sounds like it needs a Drizzy verse. Chiptune elements are understated, yet perfect. Beat and vocals mixed in a way that compliment eachother well. Harmonies during the hook are mixed great. challenges complete, what a banger of a song.
Rob: 8 This vocalist has talent and a great voice. I’m not so sure I hear the chip but I truly like this track a lot. I wanna bump this in my car and cruise the strip. Ok I hear the chip now its subtle and that fine.

Bryan: 8.5 exactly what I expected out of gill from the title alone. most hook than substance this track is very sky fortress – the lyrical word play is a lot of fun in this track, the delivery is stilted and broken in that ill gill flavor and he makes it work. idk if boomer and sooner should count as a multi but it does even though it feels lazy – like this idea and half the track existed before this challenge and was adapted to fit. the ending is prime – hope you dont mind my little addition straight contra with a heavy drum kit this is an og apporach to chiptune and sounds superb in this round. the mixing on the kick is poor but literally everything else in the mix is tight af and very easy to enjoy. this is the best offering from kkmds so far I actually genuinely like this track and will replay it especially during the very frustrating holliday season and a candidate for the compliation album without a doubt
MC Lars 5 Very topical! But hook is kind of jarring, as is the flow. But I do think the MC has some originality and with a little bit of work, this diamond will be ready to shine!
Pixelseed: 7 Like the lyrics and delivery Sounds good, nice beat Video seems an after thought
Richie: 7 Flow could be a bit better in terms of syllable placement. I like the artist’s energetic delivery. Hook could be a bit better, feels more like a verse except for the ‘ok boomer’ refrain. Beat is pretty interesting, could use more variety in the drum pattern tho. Vocals could be mixed a little better. That “OOHHH NOOOO” part in the middle of one of the verses sticks out a lot. challenge elements complete. This song has a solid foundation, just needs a few changes to bring it up to the top-tier level of Jeffery Epstein Didn’t Kill Himself.
Rob: 6 I’m not a huge fan of the delivery but this is nerdcore and we are allowed to have fun so I am ok with it The keyboard lines I assume are for the appregio and its a little bit much for me. Stuff in the back during the rhymes is nicer than during the hooks.

Bryan: 8 right off the bat this intro reminds me of old khill/ttc work and i like it – the kick overpowers the vocals and thats unfortunate because the leveling dosent really help. Speedrun is literally a speedrun with a single verse and chorus that hits hard and fast. solid multis and rapid fire delivery make this a really fun minute and a half This is a very chip beat – actual chip kits no lofi filters and it sounds great. the kick is tuned up a bit too much and muddies hte vocals while drowning the sample. The arpeggio sample isnt really an arepggio but its close enough and works with the track. a totally acceptable approach to the challenges and honestly refreshing at a minute and a half of rapid fire hotness. really nice handling of the challenges suffering only from some delivery challenges from both sides of the team
MC Lars 4 Very hard to hear vocals, sounds like they are panned and very quiet. Could be louder with doubles etc.? Flow is good, but also could use some practice. Maybe it just needs better mastering.
Pixelseed: 7 Cool lyrics Like the speed run game feel i nthe music Video matches +1 pt, feels forced
Richie: 6.5 flow was solid on this one. Song was way too short tho. Definitely would have loved to hear more. That sample is fire. The beat sounds like it’s dope, but the mix on this one really works against it. The overall song mix could be la lot ouder. challenge met, great foundation, a better mix and more song would improve the score.
Rob: 5 I think the lyricist did a really great job on this considering I suspect the producer was not accustomed to making beats in this way. Vocals need more oomph though. Now the music is as authentic sounding as its gets when it comes to chiptunes so I am drawn in immediately and curious as to the methods they used for this. Boy was that short and that point perhaps to lack of familiarity with new software and thats ok because if this is what this person can do with a not much time to figure things out this sounds great to me.

Bryan: 8 I enjoy the flow and delivery more than the angsty way by which navi tells this story. a very nice draw from teh droids video and seems like a natural choice for one of the more rebellous and socially nonconformist teams. very nice word play and multis per usual. this is another great chip beat, all of the synths are nice and grainy, this sounds like it could come straight out of a master system. the breakdowns are particularly enjoyable but the drums are a little too scattered both across the roll and in the mix. the arp on the hook is tight and everything plays well in the mix, even with a lot of bass on the system. this is a solid offering that dosent hit for me the way previous helephino tracks have. knowing both of these artists made me question my perspective as if I was viewing this track through a lens of entitlement, and while that may be the case im not swayed enough by that possibility to believe this track is better than it appears to be, which is a hard pill to swallow. The aerosmitch callback also falls flat for me – ndb js.
MC Lars 8 Amazing flow and synth arrangement that doesn’t take away from the energy. Very dope.
Pixelseed: 9 Cool lyrics, this works well I would download this song Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 9.5 Songwriting is half words, half vocal performance. This team consistently nails both aspects of that. Sheesh. Vocalist comfortably runs through different cadences and vocal tones with a frightening level of ease. Beat is dope as fuck, love the melodic switch up around 1:25. The vocal glitches and scratches are a good touch. Felt the kick and snare could hit a hair harder in the mix. challenge met, this team remains the team to beat in terms of creativity. beat could kick just a bit harder tho.
Rob: 9 What can I say this is poetic and it makes a statement and has personality and will inspire some and piss off others. Music is supposed to do all these things. Another great song. This song is so gay and I love it. Daring and fun and following the rules of the game while making it their own. WTF this team can do no wrong.

Bryan: 8 this track is at the top of my list for best flow in the multis challenge. Gross changes up pitch and speed effortlessly and could stand on stage with the likes of beefy and nurse hella any day – in fact i would like to see more features outta this guy. i think the choices to speak to the tournament are fine but those punches better land and they dont hit as hard as the beat, even when the beat drops to highlight the punches. wanna talk shit? you get your chance in rnd4 bring the heat. this beat is big and tall in a moby type of way – a wall of bass and some lofi drums. simple and hot and identifiably bill beats. this isnt super chiptunes and that bums me out because i was stoked on hte idea of bill beats cutting some classic games. the attempt at an arp on the hook is over run by everything else going on. i can hear it back there but its not impressive. drop the beat at just the right time and those punches land with force – another trick to help an expert mix. everything about this mix is great except what i have to assume is the itentional muting of the arpeggio on the hook. Everything about this track works here except the video, which was the lynch pin of the challenge. Considering the mininal lofi/chip elements in the beat and lack of obvious connection to the video I have to assume this was a ‘well i like it and dont want to change it’ situation. great song all the same, suffering only a few knocks from the challenge parameters for me
MC Lars 7 I like the energy and chord progression, drums are awesome too.
Pixelseed: 6 Cool lyrics I like the delivery and production a lot Video seems an after thought
Richie: 8.5 I liked the flow on this one, well done with the rhyme schemes. great job switching up the flow. I felt the hook could be a little better energy-wise, but otherwise this is dope. beat is dope, thank you for a kick I can hear. could use one or two more melodic elements, but otherwise it’s good. Vox are solid in the mix, love the delay effect on the hook vox. challenge elements complete (i think I heard a chip arppegio in the beat, lol). Vocalist has a killer flow. a few minor tweaks and it’s a perfect entry
Rob: 9 This is super super solid. It couldn’t be more current as it is self aware of round 3 right in the lyrics. A true standout for me but loses points for missing the chip elements. I still love the song a lot though. Lyricist practically dares me to say his rapping wack but I can’t, its great. The music as cool as it was initially didn’t do much for me then I found myself chair grooving along to it the moment the beat came in. (now I keep rewinding it because I think it is really really nice) not a thing wrong with the mix perfect mix. There is a bit of the sounds in the back I’d guess are chip but chip is not really something that would come to mind to me if I was listening to this outside of this round.

Bryan: 8 really solid raps on this track finally something to remember from this team. a choice was made here to only do a single verse with a double hit of the tbh enjoyable hook. This was good but I wanted more – I better multis too = vaginosis? ok. this beat is super solid but that drop in the beginning is too loud – you dont want people turning down this banger. great sampling but im not sure that laser stab on the hook, which replaces the sample arpeggio, counts itself as an arpeggio. i would like to see this recomposed with the elements moved around a bit to let the arp sit on the hook instead. aside from being very short this is an awesome entry for round 3 and easily the best track from this team so far. keep this up
MC Lars 4 The mic sounds like a demo, even though the MC clearly has skill. I think a better recorded lead vocal would make this one a winner.
Pixelseed: 7 Sharp lyrics, to the point Nice delivery and production Video seems an after thought
Richie: 7.5 Personally, this is my favorite song of the entire round. This song is saucy AF. Definitely sounds like some shit I’d hear on the radio. Song is criminally short tho, I’m upset there’s no second verse to this. Damn you. Beat is VERY dope, classic Capcom-ish chiptune sample. Love the drumplay on this one. Vocals could sound so much better tho. They sound overcompressed and telephone-like in this mix. Challenge elements complete. A BANGER with a better vocal mix and a second verse.
Rob: 10 This song is wonderful I love everything about this song. I feel like I am discovering a long lost meme classic. I love this.

Bryan: 8.5 the raps and flow on this track are top notch right up to the last minute. ditch the spoken word thing even as a bit it doesnt work and was a negative for this track. as the only really bad part of the song it was a shame it was also the outro, leaving a lasting negative impression of an otherwise really solid track. word play and multis were on point, so i cant complain too much. sometimes less is more – this beat is minimalist and just so cool. really perfectly executed. Its not nearly as chiptune as I want it to be for this challenge but it is a great fucking beat. clean mix too – i mean its easier to do with fewer elements but yeah super solid. I am not considering that note stab as an arp either – not in the spirit of the challenge. ”
a very enjoyable track up until the bit at the end, this track is a nice sync to the video and plays well. The challenges seem to have been a bit of an after thought here but I am pretty flexible on how artists choose to approach each challenge element, as long as the output is an exceptional track. This track was good but it wasnt exceptional and I do think that embracing the challenges could have helped – a more chiptune influecned beat, a solid arp on the hook both would have enhanced this track, no taken away from it.”
MC Lars 5 I like their fearlessness and storytelling, but it’s hard to hear them and the singing seems off key on the chorus.
Pixelseed: 7 Cool lyrics Sounds good, nice beat Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 8 aiiight, you rapping rapping on this. I’m digging the changes in vocal tone throughout the verses. Hook gives me classic west-coast vibes. Felt the talking at the end went on a bit too long tho. I like the beat. Felt it could have used a stroger, more memorable melodic element during the hook. Vocals sound good. really good. this was good, challenge met. love the vocalist’s wide range of vocals on this one. beat is solid and with a few additions this song is even better
Rob: 8 So many voices. I wouldn’t necessarily think it was all the same person so really great job on this one. wow. Mix is nice and with all the voices that can be tough I assume to get such a nice mix.

Bryan: 9 The opening to this track sets a great pace for a nice approach to the chip tune challenge. A grinding bass drone, tight snares and muted percs all mix for a nice chippy beat. the hook isnt really hype but the song writing is very solid. great delivery and multis all over the place, great flow but the hypes are in there almost to throw a middle finger at that part of the challenge – the ‘yeahs’ in v2 are so not hype i was like lol wtf. this is another contender for best beat of the round and that showcasing after the second verse is a stand out success. this beat is very well composed and mixed creating a soundscape that works with 117 and the droids video chosen. All around great effort that I will listen to frequently in the future. Also slaps in the cars super pleased with this track – the dissonant lofi instro with a growly bassline and 117 nonstop verbal assault all satisfy the challenges and make for a great track. The arp on hte hooks could have been a little louder to really stand out but otherwise this was a great submission for round 3.
MC Lars 6 Catchy and creative, singing could have been more in key and that would have made it awesomer, but I love the originality!
Pixelseed: 7 Like the verses Nice delivery and production Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 9 This team never fails to disappoint with their songwriting. Vocal performance during the verses was really dope! Hook was hella catchy as well. aiight, I love beats in this time signature, good shit. That arpeggio during the hook is FLAMES. Felt the vocals were mixed really good. The reverb during the hook could use a high-pass filter, but otherwise, this is fire. challenge elements are complete. this song is dope! minor gripes but otherwise perfect.
Rob: 8.5 This is nerdcore. I like the delivery a lot. Lots of emotion. I like when I feel like I’m peeking into something and getting part of the story. I believe the protagonist. Chip parts check Deep bass check. Nice mix check check. I feel myself judging this round very differently than other rounds. This one feels really good to me that thick ass bass is so nice. Wide open mix.

    Gonna find the perfect flavor
For me to serve and cater
    To Be a fervent Baker
    It’s my servant nature
    Thoughts of victory and frangipane
    Reading mysteries and dragon Lance
Waiting on these Chelsea buns to rise
Icing made I like to smother mine
baked Alaska with some fudge inside
time to change the judges minds
    Win some lose some
    live to bake another day
We do it for the love
With Apron’s full of butter stains

Until now it’s been all folly and bad taste
But I Won’t quit till I get Paul Hollywood’s handshake
The technical challenge: hey Mom I’m first place
Dough is knotted to perfection no burnt lace
They didn’t know I touch the molecules
and cease they growth laced with goat cheese
And rosemary glazed and baked under low heat
The results of all this needing and folding
Flavors emboldened keep the ingredients flowing
Watch the people keep eating and glowing

Got flour on my brow from wiping off the sweat
The powers in the mouth the piping is all set
    It’s all about the timing
Ganache has got a proper shine
    Cooked through on all sides
And not single finger needed cauterized
    I’m in the zone
    Watch the butter fly
    Gonna make a scone
    Shaped like a butterfly
That Makes you snap to life
    Like when lightning strikes
    So lost in the moment
Ate all yours now you’re biting mine!

All I ask is that let you me in
Sugar, flour and a baking tin
    I’ll make you my world
    Marmalade and swirls
    Cinnamon and spice
    You’ll cherish every bite
    Warming your insides
    have another slice
    Oh how time will fly
    Welcome to my life
    Please don’t ever leave
    have everything you

Bryan: 7.5 I like this team and I like the GBBS thing – Im here for it. But this time around Im worried that the track suffered in the interest of the meme. The flow feels forced – there are dropped syllables, uncomfortable adjustments to make some of the multis fit. I know Hobbes can handle multis so again I am afriad the need to keep it to a theme overrode the better judgement of a skilled lyracist. The hook has an arp but its not harmonized with the hook and feels like a sleepy foodcore take on the nutcracker suite. A legend of Mana type of feel on this track – the dissonant xylophone satisfies the arpeggio requirement but isnt mixed down in to the track well enough to aboid being a distraction. The change up after the second verse lacks any punch – the guitar line should be huge and its hidden behind the doubled bridge/hook. Those drums also are begging to be brought up in the mix. I hate to say it but there were not enough chip elements here for me to feel good about that part of the challenge, either. The challenge requirements were met but I was expecting a lot more from this team this round. I get the baking science vibe can work with the scientist in the video chosen but that also feels like a loose grab at what would work best for a track that was already conceptualized.
MC Lars 5 I like the braveness of this, but the flow seems a but off and out of tune with the beat.
Pixelseed: 6 Lyrics ok Nice delivery and production Video matches +1 pt, feels forced
Richie: 7.5 Ahhh yes, more bakingcore raps! Most consistent theme of any team in VPC history. lyrically, this song took me to the kitchen. felt the flow could be a bit tighter in certain places, but otherwise, goodstuff. this sample is FIRE. suitably moody. beat could use more on the low-end. Shit… those guitars at the end, holy shit. Very dope! Vocal quality definitely sound improved over the last round from this team. challenge met, good shit. room to improve with a few changes.
Rob: 9.5 I’m so fucking hungry right now. This song haha. I’m not even sure what is going on but I love it. I fell like I am in a strange film or something. Music is super soothing. I think I’m gonna be such the odd man out this round but this is another favorite for me.

Bryan: 6 The flow and delivery on this track is solid and easy to enjoy, if its just quiet enough to not hear the actual lyrics. Simple, simple rhyme schemes and one of the most over played tropes in nerdcore – the powers of the game manifest in the gamer and now WOW we are on an adventure of pedantic pandering and reference jamming. The best part of this delivery is when it fades out at the end. Aside from a few well used samples this beat is very basic and meets the challenges at the bare minimum level. The short little diddy of an arp satisfies the challenge but dose not satisfy me. The beat is stronger than the vocals on this track but thats like sayin its the hottest waitress at dennys. whoopty fuckin do. Quicker than most of the other tracks in the comp this team was comfortable writing to fit the videos feel, not its running time – and that works – but thats about it. The hook is a major let-down, not only are we hitting that powers from the game trope but we doubledown with the cheatcode repition in the hook. Off the mark here from beginning to end, the only real win for this track was that it shaved 10 seconds on the video time.
MC Lars 7 Great hook and rhymes, but I think the drums could be better mixed. Maybe 808s instead of a breakbeat sample.
Pixelseed: 8 Cool lyrics Aggressive, nice delivery and production Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 8 sega raps always have a special place in my heart. lyrically I thought it was solid. Flow-wise it was cool too, but don’t be afraid to slow down on the syllables every now and then to create variety. Let that last hook play out! love the melody on the beat, drums could be louder. Vocals could be a bit brighter, maybe a bit of extra high-end on the EQ to make them stand out in the mix a hair more. chiptune w/ multis and a vibe that goes with the video.
Rob: 10 OMG this is like getting the golden violin but its a sega genisis. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. This is suuuuuuch a good super hero. I want like 20 more stories please im dying to know more OMG so good. Read the lyrics on your first listen through and go on an amazing adventure because it is such a good story. Genesis sounds are nice for hip hop I agree. SO warm. I wanted the organ sounds to come in so much and when they did it felt really good. This is so sweet. I’m smiling listening to it. Man the key change yes yes yes. Wow I wasn’t ready for it to end. Lucky for me I have to go back and read the lyrics and listen to this again.

Bryan: 6 This delivery threw me for a loop – lazy and soft we have a repeat of last rounds build up over the verses. but instead of building in intensity it just sorta builds in volume. I bet this sounded a lot better in your head than it does on the track. interesting word choices take away from the listening experience all in all fam this feels phoned in and is generally disapointing. This is one of my favorite beats from the round – straight up. The intro is fun and sets expectations the drops in to a downbeat lofi type thing idk I love. The chip drums could have a little more body to them while standing up to that powerful 808. With some work on the kick and bass line this instrumental could slide in to any lofi chill stream effortlessly. Can we just remove the hook? with the exception of a chip-esque beat this round fails to meet the challenges in my opinion. The multis and hypes weren’t there in any sort of moving way and experiencing this song left feeling put off of things in general – I found it difficult to enjoy myself while remembering this track regardless of what I was doing.
MC Lars 7 Nice flow and rhythm! Good job and concept! Flow is a bit off on parts, but still dope.
Pixelseed: 7 Lyrics were ok Nice delivery and production Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 7.5 The flow on this kind of gives me that new school trap vibe. I think the hook could have been better. this beat has a dope vibe, love the deep 808s. Vocals feel a bit overcrompressed and harsh and could be louder during the hook. 8bit sounds, multi rhymes, and it works with the vid.
Rob: 8 I don’t need no fucking sleep. This beat has so many aspects to it wow.

I’ve been trapped upon this planet for many years and plenty fears
have been instilled I take these pills with many beers and if memory steers me correct
we all protect out family dear when tragedy’s near
    calamity of fear
fueled with tears of those who’ve disappeared
as I look upon em all, I come to terms I just ain’t human
douse em with ethanol, you’re all just germs with little movement
I’ve been watching through the ages, advanced stages, no improvement
so called sages filling pages, a race of racist disillusion
Do we stand em against the wall, get the strap and start to shooting?
Can we stand to love em all and hope that rehab’s the solution?
What we have here is confusion and a lack of restitution
‘long as humans stay abusive there will be no good conclusion

So I’m leaving this place, leaving this race
    you should all feel disgrace
I grieve for the peace, I’ll missed these days when the sun shined on my face
So I’m leaving this place, leaving this race
    you should all feel disgrace
I grieve for the peace, I’ll missed these days when the sun shined on my face

    10, 9, 8, 7, 6, god dammit
I’m jumping on my rocket ship and leaving this planet
    5, 4, 3, 2, 1 god dammit
I’m jumping on my rocket ship and leaving this planet

As a child I landed here on this miserable planet
they once were wild, they had no fear, now I just don’t understand it
Took a while to get in gear, but a machine had been implanted
and now I see the end is near, so I gotta leave, god dammit
I lived through renaissance and I’ve seen kingdoms collapse
I’ve enjoyed the ambiance of new found freedom, in fact
I’ve seen men work beyond the hate, creating lifelong pacts
and then I’ve seen their confidants just stab them in the back
after centuries of watching things like plagues and floods and droughts
and with such degrees of populace the clock is running out
you see, mother earth ain’t bout this shit so watch you’ve all drowned
so I’m getting on my rocket ship then getting out of town

So I’m leaving this place, leading this race
such a drag to feel displaced
I’ll grieve for the peace, what a disgrace, shade that none of you can chase
So I’m leaving this place, leading this race
    you should all feel disgrace
I grieve for your beasts, what a disgrace, shame that none of you can chase

    10, 9, 8, 7, 6, god dammit
I’m jumping on my rocket ship and leaving this planet

Bryan: 7 The flow on this track surprised me and bummed me out on a wave over and over again – at times tight af but then sloppy or jumbled this feels like a first take good enough cut. The mix buries the vocals in a way that is almost onforgivable on some of those multis and the hook especially. This is an awesome beat but suffers from a poor mix. I liked everything about this composition and really hope the team goes back for another swing at mixing and mastering the instrumental. This track is a great example of how to execute a chiptune arpeggio on the hook. Great attack on the challenge. The multis and chip elements are there but the whole package dosent pack the punch I was expecting. Instead of writing to the video I think this was more a ‘which one fits the song closest’ type of situation
MC Lars 6 I like this one, but the syncopated synth kind of throws off the rapping. Could have been a simpler MIDI arrangement I think, but still dope!
Pixelseed: 8 Lyrics show struggle – good job Nice delivery and production Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 8 flow was flames, could be a hair tighter at certain parts, but otherwise very solid. The hook gave me Gucci Mane vibes, lol. Good shit. beat is fuego… love the drum switch up after the 1:00 mark. The arpeggio during the hook is fire. Felt the beat could be a little louder i the mix. multis and matching mood, good shit.
Rob: 9 Wow powerful lyrics. I’m moved by this. I feel terrible being put in a position to judge people because I may have glossed over something like this if I was somehow distracted and this is an amazing piece of writing that I am very happy I got to hear. Very simple calming music. Chip paired with traditional hip hop beats was what I was expecting a lot of this round and didn’t get a lot of but I like it a lot and there is plenty of chip to keep me happy.

Bryan: 9.5 very strong showing yet again from beefy. multis flow great and the song is a ton of fun to listen to. This is a great example of taking the challenges and delivering something stellar and on-brand. This track is a love letter to Wheelie Cyberman and it top notch start to finish. More Supercommuter than Optimus Rhyme this beat bangs and is super on point for the intention of the track. Chippy composition is great and the bass is heavy the way I like it. This track is on my phone now and absolutely slams on my lincolns sound system. This is another great track from a top contender in this VPC. Tanner and Beefy continue to show that experience can beat luck any day of the week. The arp on this hook is tight and nails the challenge. The bots video works too, considering the inspiration.
MC Lars 9 Beefy’s voice sounds so great with the synth and the drums are awesome. It’s a classic!
Pixelseed: 8 Like the lyrics Upbeat, nice delivery Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 9 Flow was effortlessly amazing. Multis don’t feel forced at all. Vocal performance during the verses were full of personality, which I like. The hook is dope, but I feel it needs something more to it. Not sure what that is. Love the beat, especially that deep, rich bassline. Drums and melody both very solid. I’m a fan of the sega-esque tom fills, nice touch. The vocals sit nicely in the mix. Video matches, and there were plenty of multis to go around.
Rob: 8 The vocalists style merges with the beat extremely well and the flow is so constantly on beat and solid. The sort of singing part is super cool. Also ya I would love to live for a lot longer than my body will probably last so ya get to that scientists please. The chip sounds in the intro I truly loved.

Bryan: 8 1-Up Funk has become a consistent favorite in this vpc and that has a lot to do with these catchy hooks. Solid flow and good multis means this hits the challenges on the head and delivers another fun song to listen to. Mix was great on this track with the synths and drums bringing a particularly sweet chiptunes vibe. I woud have liked a tighter mix and master across all elements of this track with the vocals being brought forward a big more, especially on the hook. nice melodic work, all in all a very solid beat This is a great example of how I envisioned this challenge playing out. If you were to combine forces with Pixelseed at Magfest and he said yo Ive got this material do you have a song to go with it – yeah this is a great pairing and really, really works.
MC Lars 7 Great flow and love the use of chiptune! Cool concept and great battle rhymes and triplet flow.
Pixelseed: 8 Cool lyrics, good job Upbeat, nice delivery, would like to see live Video matches +2 pt
Richie: 8.5 This team never dissapoints with their hooks. I appreciate the bridge as well. Flow and multis were well executed. The beat is cool, i especially like the drum pattern. Vocals are mixed well, felt the “catch the pandemic” refrain during the hook could have been just a hair bit brighter in the mix. song matches the vibe of the video, multis were there.
Rob: 8 Great writing and delivery. The idea that they are the pandemic is clever and I ran spybot search and destroy on my computer after I played this track because I know about steganography and I don’t trust these guys j/k great song 😛 I like the idea of the pandemic and the video. Maybe one of the best matches for the video in the whole thing aside from spot on robot songs haha. Anyway it is a great mix real sounding drums take way from the chip for me but they do come and go so that works for me a lot actually.

That was a lotta heckin teams, huh??
